Welcome to GREENDICE games; where culture, creativity, and community come together around the tabletop. We are an independent board game publisher proudly based in South Africa, driven by a passion to celebrate the rich diversity, languages, and traditions that make our country so unique.

South Africa is a land of stories; stories told around fires, on street corners, in many tongues, and across generations. Our mission is to capture that spirit and share it through games that bring people together, spark laughter, and inspire connection. Over time, we aim to build a diverse library of titles that highlight different aspects of South African life - from its humor and heritage to its everyday adventures - allowing players everywhere to experience our culture in fun and engaging ways.

Our very first release, GOOI MIELIES, is the start of this exciting journey. As a new and determined start-up, we wanted our debut game to embody the heart of our mission: “Go for it!”A phrase that sums up the energy, resilience, and creativity that drives South Africans to dream big and make things happen.

Founders

Behind GreenDice Games are two brothers, Trevor and Jason, who have always been quite different, yet somehow always worked well together. Opposites in many ways, but that contrast has become a key part of how they think, create, and build together. It’s where the idea of collaboration, balance, and shared vision really began.

One of their earliest “business ventures” goes all the way back to when they were just 5 and 7 years old. With a small yellow plastic table set up by the road outside their house, they grabbed a few random items from inside, put up a handwritten “For Sale” sign, and waited.

After a few smiles from passing cars… someone actually stopped—and bought something.

That was enough. “Alright Trev, close the shop, we’ve done it!”

As they grew older, Trevor and Jason followed very different paths, but that early spark never really disappeared. Years later, it found its way back; this time in the form of GREENDICE GAMES.

The company’s logo, two green dice, represents the two brothers. Different in how they think and work, yet able to come together to create something great.

GreenDice Games is a return to that childhood moment. A mix of creativity, teamwork, and a shared drive to build something meaningful. And this time, they’re not closing shop early.

They’re just getting started—working together to bring great games to homes and stores across South Africa.

Design Philosophy

At GreenDice Games, our approach is simple: create games that people in South Africa can genuinely connect with.

We focus on designing games that feel familiar, whether it’s through language, themes, or the way people naturally gather and play. The goal is to bring something to the table that feels like it belongs.

Our range is built with balance in mind. We’ve aimed to launch with games that are easy to learn and quick to play; perfect for families, friends, and casual game nights. At the same time, we’re developing more technical and strategic games, which we plan to introduce as we grow.

Accessibility is just as important as design. We are committed to offering games at prices that make sense for South Africans, without compromising on quality.

Every game we produce is made to a high standard, designed to match the quality of globally popular titles. From materials to gameplay experience, we aim to deliver products that stand confidently alongside the best in the world.

Where phrase “Gooi Mielies” come from?

The phrase gooi mielies comes from old farm traditions in South Africa. Before a good dance or gathering, farmers would throw mielies or husks onto the ground to prepare the space—basically setting the stage for a proper celebration. Over time, “gooi mielies” became a fun way of saying “let’s get started” or “go all out and enjoy it.”

So when you play Gooi Mielies, you’re not just playing a game—you’re stepping into a bit of South African farmyard spirit.
